ETHYL ACETATE Definition

ETHYL ACETATE is a kind of ester with  a characteristic sweet smell (similar to fruits) and is used primarily as a solvent and diluent in nitrocellulose and cellulose acetate lacquers and as an activator or hardener in paint and rubber industry, Ethyle Acetate also has a main use in print and packaging industry as inks for printing machine such as Flexo, Helios and Rotogravure. It also be used in  the food industry in the preparation of synthetic fruit essences and flavours. In the pharmaceutical industry it is an important component in the concentration and purification of antibiotics. Ethyl acetate also used as a solvent in a wide range of  other applications, including solvent based coatings, artificial leather, adhesives, perfumes, photographic films, polyester films, BOPP films and aluminum foils.

Ethyl acetate is used primarily as a solvent and diluent, being favored because of its low cost, low toxicity, and agreeable odor. Ethyl acetate is the ester of ethanol and acetic acid; it is manufactured on a large scale for use as a solvent.

ETHYL ACETATE is also well known as Ethyl ethanoate, Acetic acid ethyl ester, Acetoxyethane, Ethyl acetic ester

ETHYL ACETATE  Applications

  1. Main use of Ethyl acetate is in the manufacture of nitrocellulose and cellulose acetate lacquers
  2. Used as a solvent component in adhesives
  3. Used in spread-coating compounds for artificial leather
  4. Used in organic syntheses (esters, drugs)
  5. Used  as extractant (extraction of water from foods in a vacuum)
  6. Used as a gelling agent in the manufacture of powder
  7. Used in essences and perfumes and denaturants
  8. Used as an auxiliary in the manufacture of glazed and transparent paper
  9. Used as an additive to polishes
  10. Used in a variety of coating formulations such as epoxies, urethanes, cellulosics, acrylics and vinyls (More) Applications for these coatings are numerous including wood furniture and fixtures, agricultural, construction and mining equipment, auto refinishing, and maintenance and marine uses.
  11. Used as a solvent in inks for flexographic and rotogravure printing(More) where its main function is to dissolve the resin, control the viscosity and modify the drying rate.
  12. Used as an extraction solvent in the production of pharmaceuticals and food
  13. Used as a carrier solvent for herbicides
  14. can be used as a viscosity reducer for resins used in photoresist formulations in the electronics industry.
